Open letter re: Essential Support Person(s) for Patients with Disabilities

In the wake of Ariis Knight’s tragic death, DABC has joined several other disability organizations and individuals in calling for a clear province-wide policy allowing people with disabilities to have an essential support person present during hospitalization. We recognize that hospitals must limit visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic, but in many cases, such accommodation is fundamental to communication and informed consent to care.

Note re: Quest Food Exchange

During this COVID-19 pandemic, if your Quest client card has expired or is due to expire, Quest will honour all cards for one additional year beyond the current expiry date. There is no need to go into one of their markets to have your card renewed at this time.

Also, all clients that are unable to shop for themselves due to physical restrictions, who are at risk or are ill, can give their client card to another family member, friend or volunteer to shop on their behalf. This is ONLY for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
