Access Pro Bono launches Family Mediation Pilot Project
Access Pro Bono (APB) recently launched a Family Mediation Pilot Project, and DABC has received the following information from APB about the project:
We hope to provide suitable candidates with an opportunity to resolve their entire family dispute out of court and without litigation whenever possible.
We offer clients a 30-minute free legal advice appointment to provide pre mediation guidance. This is based on an income qualification (please refer to our website www.accessprobono.ca). If both parties choose to participate, we will then coordinate a pro bono mediation for up to 3 hours where they can discuss:
- parenting time;
- spousal and/or child support; and
- division of assets (limited)
If the parties reach a mutual understanding, they will receive independent legal advice before signing the agreement.
To determine if they qualify clients are encouraged to call us at 604-482-3195 ext 1526 or email us at familymediation@accessprobono.ca.
Please visit our website at: http://familymediationbc.com for more information and some informational videos.

Community Update: Expanded Coverage for Aircasts/Walking Boots
Dear Community Partner,
Disability Alliance BC (DABC) is writing to let you know that effective May 2018, the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction started providing funding for aircasts/walking boots for people who are eligible for health supplements. Eligible individuals include:
- Recipients of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) benefits
- Recipients of Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers to Employment benefits (PPMB)
- Income Assistance and PWD recipients residing in special care facilities
- People who have a life threatening health need
DABC is encouraged by this expansion of health supports for people with disabilities and we thank Minister Shane Simpson for his leadership in introducing this much needed policy improvement. We also recognize that many British Columbians with disabilities continue to experience barriers accessing other needed medical equipment and services and will continue to share our concerns about this with the Minister and his staff.
If you have any questions about this policy change, please feel free to contact me through our Advocacy Access Program.
Best regards,
Sam Turcott, Program Director, Advocacy Access
