New Government Announces its Cabinet

Hon. John Horgan’s government unveiled its cabinet yesterday.  Disability Alliance BC congratulates all of the new appointees and applauds Mr. Horgan for selecting a gender balanced and diverse cabinet.

We welcome the appointment of the Hon. Shane Simpson as Minister for Social Development and Poverty Reduction and look forward to working with Mr. Simpson to ensure people with disabilities have the resources and support they need to live independently and with dignity.  We are also pleased with the decision of the new government to create BC’s first Ministry for Mental Health and Addictions and welcome the Hon. Judy Darcy’s appointment as Minister.

Mable Elmore is appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Poverty Reduction.  We are encouraged this appointment reflects the new government’s commitment to the development of a comprehensive poverty reduction plan.  We commend them also for their commitment to addressing many issues of key importance to people in the disability community.  We will work with and support the new government in its efforts to make these commitments a reality.

The full list of new appointees is available in this article from the Vancouver Sun.
