Opportunity to provide input in the Family Law Act Modernization
Are you a Disabled Person with lived experience of the Family Law Act? An Invitation to join a dialogue about Family Law in BC.
B.C.’s Ministry of Attorney General (the Ministry) is pleased to invite People with Disabilities with lived experience in topics related to families to participate in an upcoming regional dialogue session on the modernization of the Family Law Act. The topics of the discussion will be:
- Parents’ and guardians’ responsibilities for making decisions about a child and spending time with a child
- Protection from family violence
- Parenting assessments and reports on the needs and views of a child
The session will be in person and limited to a small group of individuals with lived experience.

SFU-WWU Survey on experiences with Canadian-US travel measures during the COVID-19 pandemic
Researchers with the Pandemics and Borders Project (Simon Fraser University) and the Border Policy Research Institute (Western Washington University) are conducting a survey to better understand the impact of public health measures applied to travel between Canada and the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic, between March 2020 and May 2023. They are, in particular, interested in the experiences and perceptions of equity-deserving communities including people with disabilities.
They are studying the impacts of four types of travel measures: travel restrictions (to control who is and who is not allowed to travel), testing requirements, quarantine (to separate infected or potentially infected travellers), and vaccination (to limit travel by unvaccinated individuals). Their research will support policy-making about the effective use of cross-border measures during pandemics.
You can participate by filling out a survey, which is available here: https://pilotsurveysfu.limesurvey.net/855841?lang=en. To be eligible to complete the survey, those interested must be 18 years or older and have resided in the US or Canada between March 2020 and May 2023.

Mobi Bike Share: Persons with Disabilities Pass

Mobi Bike Share introduced its Community Pass program in 2018, in order to make bike share more accessible and affordable.
People with disabilities who are eligible can sign up for the Persons with Disabilities (PWD pass). This pass is available to Persons with Disabilities who may use e-bikes for more convenient, accessible transportation around the city.
Eligibility
You may qualify for this pass if you are 19 years or older, and have any of the following:
- Proof of disability assistance from the last
12 months
- A tax return stating PWD assistance
- A doctor’s note stating long term disability
*The Red Compass Card does not qualify for this pass, as we can’t confirm PWD status through this method.
The PWD classic & ebike pass offers:
- unlimited 60-minute rides on Classic Bikes. Rides longer than 60 minutes incur overage fees of $0.25/minute.
- $0 to unlock + $0.00/minute for the first 60 minutes on Ebikes. Once you exceed 60 minutes in a single ride, the rate changes to $0.35/minute.
