Courts Grants One Year Extension to Woodlands Survivors
The courts have granted a one year extension until September 19th 2012 to former residents of Woodlands who were at the institution after August 1st 1974 to file a claim for compensation. To date, only 10 files have been registered and the claims process is proving more time consuming and complicated than had been anticipated.
If you were at Woodlands after August 1st 1974 and want to find out about applying for compensation through the Settlement Agreement, contact the law firm Klein Lyons at 604-874-7171 or call Jane Dyson at the BCCPD – 604-875-0188.
Updates to Disability Benefits Help Sheets
We recently updated two of our Help Sheets:
- Help Sheet 7: Health Supplements for People with Disabilities. The update reflects changes the government has made to its policy on orthotics
- Help Sheet 12: Income Assistance Application Process for People with Disabilities. The update focuses on the Ministry of Social Development’s practise of asking new applicants to complete the first part of the application process online.
To access our Help Sheets, visit our Library/Money & Income Supports page. Contact Valerie at feedback@bccpd.bc.ca or call her at 604-875-0188 if you’d like any Help Sheets mailed to you.
