DCCN Session – The Language that Surrounds Disability
We’ve received the following information from the Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN):
We wish to inform you about our next Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) session. DCCN is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is supported by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre and PeerNet BC.
Our next group is happening on July 19th from 4:00PM – 6:00PM. At 408-602 West Hastings St.
The session will focus on language and stigma and the way in which those two concepts affect the disabled community. Through this session we hope to brainstorm ideas for community projects that shine light on the disabled experience, based on previous group discussions. Come share your lived experiences through lively, peer facilitated discussion. This group is facilitated by and for people with disabilities.
This session will feature Jeanne Morton. Jeanne has worked supporting individuals with disabilities for thirty years, including positions with government, the non-profit sector, currently working with the Cerebral Palsy Association of BC. A lifelong ”Word-nerd”, she will discuss the effect of language on stigma.
ASL Interpretation and food is provided! The space is also wheelchair accessible. Please let us know of any accommodations and dietary needs you require. Please email s.klassen@nsdrc.org or call 604-904-4088 to register.
