Amended regulations for wheelchair accessible elevators
The CSA B355-09 code (lifts for persons with physical disabilities) has been adopted into the Elevating Devices Safety Regulation, effective July 2, 2013. The changes include the following:
· Contractors must keep a logbook for all applicable elevating devices
· Owners of enclosed verticals or stair lifts must have a two-way communication system installed
The code adoption is not retroactive: Applicable elevating devices with installation permit dates prior to July 2, 2013 do not need to comply with the above requirements.
