Program Description
The Disability Law Clinic (DLC) provides free, confidential legal services to people with disabilities across BC. We provide summary advice and representation on certain disability-related areas of law, including:
- Human rights and discrimination, including disability-related complaints to the BC Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT) and federal human rights agencies
- Disputes about income support for people with disabilities, especially disability assistance from BC’s Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. The DLC works with DABC’s Advocacy Access program on appeals of Ministry decisions. The DLC also represents clients in applications for judicial review of certain administrative decisions
- Questions or disputes related to decision-making rights, especially in cases where BC’s Public Guardian and Trustee or a court-appointed committee make decisions on behalf of a person
- Questions about private long-term disability insurance benefits.

The DLC currently consists of three lawyers, a full-time legal advocate, a part-time intake worker and a part-time legal assistant. We are seeking a new articling student for 1 year, ideally starting in May 2026.
Job Description
Duties of the articling student position include:
- representing clients in disability-related human rights complaints to the BC Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT) and federal human rights agencies
- representing clients in appeals to BC’s Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal (EAAT), in cases involving disputes about provincial government disability benefits
- providing research support and helping the DLC’s staff lawyers to prepare applications for judicial review applications
- providing summary advice to clients on a variety of legal issues
- preparing research and briefing notes to support DABC’s ongoing systemic policy advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities
- delivering public legal education sessions, workshops, and materials for people with disabilities and disability-related organizations.
- Reviewing DABC’s helpsheets and other publications about government disability benefits, to ensure they are accurate and up to date, and developing new helpsheets in cooperation with DABC staff
- Assisting with the intake process, including: responding to inquiries from the public, going through the intake process with prospective clients, triaging requests for assistance, and ascertaining what information is needed in order to determine if a potential claim has merit
- Attending DABC staff meetings and community events.
The successful applicant must:
- Have completed and graduated from law school before May 2026, and be eligible to article as per the requirements of the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Have experience providing services to people with disabilities and/or advocating for disability justice and/or have lived experience with a disability

- Be technologically proficient with computers and computer programs, including Microsoft Office software specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients, members and staff across many diverse backgrounds

- Be legally allowed to work in Canada
The following are strong assets for this position:
- Knowledge of administrative law and judicial review processes, including federal and provincial human rights law
- Experience representing clients in administrative tribunals
- You may be expected to work at home on two or three days per week, so the ability to work independently is important.
- Experience working with people in crisis and familiarity with trauma-informed practice
- Experience with Clio or other legal services or data file management software
Wages and Benefits
Salary: $65,000
DABC pays the student’s salary for the 12-month Law Society Admission Program as well as the cost of the mandatory Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC). This position offers the following benefits after a three-month probationary period:
- 15 days of paid vacation annually
- 18 days of paid sick leave annually
- 100% of the cost of extended health and dental care benefit premiums
- 2 weeks of paid time off during DABC’s annual holiday office closure in December

Working hours and location:
This position is a [hybrid/remote] position at 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (with a one-hour paid lunch break). The successful candidate may be required to work at the Downtown Vancouver office two to three days a week, and at home the rest of the time.
The position is located in downtown Vancouver, on the traditional, ancestral and stolen lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.

Program Description
Tax AID is a DABC program that partners with the Together Against Poverty Society, the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, and the Active Support Against Poverty Society, to provide free support to people with disabilities across BC to file income taxes for current and previous years. In addition to simple tax filing, we help with self-employment income, outstanding amounts owed to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), applying for other tax related government programs/benefits, and matters related to financial literacy.
Job Description
DABC is seeking an advocate who is passionate about community work to join our Tax AID program. Under the supervision of the Tax AID Director, the Advocate will work one-on-one to assist people with disabilities with their income taxes and raise awareness about the program through strategic partnership and community outreach. The successful candidate will have other administrative responsibilities related to the program’s operations including developing and conducting workshops and participating in team meetings and training on an as needed basis.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and file accurate tax returns for current and previous years in compliance with CRA standards
- Liaise with clients and the CRA on specific issues related personal taxes
- Manage multiple client files simultaneously
- Report any questions or concerns to the Director
- Compile and organize client records
- Attend trainings to further develop accounting taxation knowledge as part of an ongoing professional development program
A successful applicant must
- Have more than 2 years of proven experience for clients using income tax preparation software (e.g., UFile) to prepare income tax returns
- Be able to work effectively with people with disabilities
- Possess a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
- Meet the requirements to be a tax filer through CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (CVITP) program
- Be self-motivated and adaptable and able to work effectively with a team
- Be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Understand the importance of preserving the confidentiality of sensitive client information
- Be computer literate and proficient with word-processing software, including the Microsoft Office Suite
- Be comfortable working in the office and remotely
- Be available for occasional travel to communities across Lower Mainland
The following are not required but would be assets to the position:
- Knowledge of tax law
- Volunteer or coordination experience with the Canadian Revenue Agency’s CVITP Program
- Working knowledge of income tax programs for people with disabilities including the Disability Tax Credit, Canada caregiver amount and other deductions
- Completion of an accounting or tax certificate or diploma/degree
Compensation: $46,400 annually
This position is for 32 hours (4 days) per week with the possibly to increase to 40 hours (5 days) per week at $58,000. Alternatively, this position is also open to candidates wishing to only work 24 hours (3 days) per week at $34,800 annually.
This position offers the following benefits after the successful completion of a three-month probationary period:

Program Description
Launched in 2017, the Right Fit program is a multi-partner service designed to address the crisis in wheelchair accessible housing by matching affordable, accessible homes and independent living supports with people who need them in the Vancouver region of British Columbia.
Led by Disability Alliance BC in partnership with the Individualized Funding Resource Centre Society (IFRC), the program provides peer-led navigation support to wheelchair users and their families, which includes a holistic assessment and the coordination of all their disability support needs (home support, equipment, and assistive technology). The Right Fit maintains a detailed inventory of accessible units through a standardized Accessibility Checklist. The program supports housing providers by matching vacant units with wheelchair users who have diverse accessibility needs and are the “right fit” tenants, ensuring the most effective use of accessible housing stock.
Job Description:
As the Outreach and Research Assistant, you will support the Right Fit Team in conducting client surveys, documenting client needs, liaising with the Team on addressing client needs, conducting analysis of survey data, and assisting with communications and events.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Conduct Right Fit client surveys (in person, online or by phone)
- Document Right Fit client needs and assist in addressing needs
- Take photographs (as appropriate) of units, accessibility features, and clients
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of survey data
- Assist with data entry
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documents as needed
- Assist with creating website content, social media and Program communications
- Other duties as assigned.
The successful applicant must:
- Have a degree or diploma in communications, public relations, social science research, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Have proficiency in web content/social media creation
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Be team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients across many diverse backgrounds
- Have the ability to act ethically and handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively with a team as well as independently
- Be able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Have excellent organizational skills
