Job Description

DABC is seeking a part-time, contracted Grants and Fundraising Manager to join our team. This is a brand new position in a burgeoning non-profit that is looking to diversify our revenue and find ways to maximize our impact. As this is a new position, the Grants and Fundraising Manager will exhibit leadership in creating grant processes and developing strategy to raise funds that will set the organization up for future financial success.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Grants and Fundraising Manager will support the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising that will include donor relations, planned giving, a membership base, a grant writing program and the promotion of cross-sectoral partnerships. 

The Grants and Fundraising Manager also plays a key role as a member of DABC’s leadership committee, contributing to the direction and leadership of the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Executive Director in developing and implementing a fundraising strategy
  • Develops grant proposals and coordinates grant reporting
  • Liaises with the Communications Coordinator in developing content and design for online fundraising processes and grant applications
  • Identifies new organizational and individual donors, and researches potential funding applications
  • Liaises with the Membership and Outreach Coordinator to maximize efficiencies and coordinate our donor and membership databases
  • Identifies and cultivates prospects for major gifts

Working hours:

This is a part-time, fixed-term, contracted position for a flexible 20-25 hours per week based on $30 per hour. Please note that as this is a contracted position, the successful applicant would not be eligible for extended health benefits or paid time off.

DABC is currently only able to offer a fixed-term contract up to the end of the fiscal year (March 2023), with the intention that with the right candidate who assists us in raising more funds during this period we can offer a permanent, salaried position within in our organization.

The successful applicant must:

  • Have a minimum 3-5 years applicable work experience
  • Have experience in the non-profit sector
  • Have knowledge of the Canadian donor landscape
  • Have strong written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts in plain language
  • Be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively with a team
  • Have excellent organizational skills
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and other online sharing platforms

The following are strong assets for this position: 

  • Lived experience with a disability and/or supporting people with disabilities
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression principles
  • AFP and/or CFRE accreditation
  • Experience with CRM software
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and other design software

The position is located in Vancouver, on the Unceded Territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish Peoples.

This position offers a hybrid work opportunity; the successful candidate may wish to work at the office (located in downtown Vancouver) part of the time, and at home the rest of the time.

Job Description

DABC is seeking a part-time Community Advocate to join our Advocacy Access Team. The Advocate will be responsible for individual and community advocacy relating to federal Canada Pension Plan Disability benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist people with disabilities with applications and appeals relating to Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPP-D) benefits
  • Conduct workshops/webinars about CPP-D disability benefits for community organizations, people with disabilities, healthcare professionals, and other interested individuals and groups
  • Be a provincial resource for community advocates and individuals on policy and legislation governing CPP-D

Working hours:

  • This position is part-time for 3 days per week at 8 hours a day (including 1 hour as a paid lunch break).

The successful applicant must:

  • Have a minimum 2 years combined post-secondary education and/or applicable work experience
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate complex concepts in plain language
  • Be able to work effectively with people with disabilities from a client-centered approach
  • Be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively with a team
  • Have strong analytical and research skills
  • Have excellent organizational skills
  • Be computer literate and proficient with word-processing software including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive client information

The following are strong assets for this position: 

  • Experience with CPP-D and other disability benefits
  • Experience in the non-profit sector
  • Background in law, social work, or a related field
  • Lived experience with a disability and/or supporting people with disabilities
  • Experience with legal research
  • Understanding of anti-oppression principles

Salary: $28,800 per year

The position is located in Vancouver, on the Unceded, Traditional, and Ancestral Territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish Peoples.

This position offers a hybrid work opportunity; the successful candidate may be required to work at the office (located in downtown Vancouver) one or two days a week, and at home the rest of the time. The position may also require occasional travel to other BC communities.

This position offers the following benefits after a three-month probationary period:

  • 9 days of paid vacation annually
  • 11 days of paid sick leave annually
  • 100% of the cost of extended health and dental care benefits
  • 2 weeks of paid time off during DABC’s annual holiday office closure in December.

JOB POSTING: Intake Worker/Legal Assistant, Disability Law Clinic

We champion issues impacting the lives of people with disabilities through our direct services, community partnerships, advocacy, research, and publications. We are a member organization of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities and the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition.

In 2020, DABC opened the Disability Law Clinic (DLC). Funded by the Law Foundation of BC, the DLC is the first non-profit legal clinic in BC that works exclusively in the area of disability rights. The DLC provides free legal advice and assistance to low-income people with disabilities, directly to persons with disabilities from across BC, on certain disability-related areas of law. The DLC currently consists of two lawyers, an articling student, and a full-time legal assistant/advocate. This posting is for a new position, for a part-time intake worker/legal assistant.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Answering calls from clients, entering information into our database, determining clients’ legal issues, directing calls to the appropriate staff member and taking messages
  • Providing clients with referrals to other agencies, sending public legal education material and providing limited legal information
  • Answering other calls, taking messages, arranging couriers, sending and delivering mail
  • Maintaining accurate database and filing system
  • Providing advocacy and litigation support for advocates and lawyers
  • Assisting with IT and website
  • Other duties as required

Required

  • Completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program, or other comparable program
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role

Assets

  • Lived experience as a person with a disability
  • Fluency in a language other than English
  • Knowledge of legal and community resources in BC
  • Excellent judgment in matters of ethics and confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with distressed clients in a calm and respectful manner
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to shifting program needs
  • Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and adapt to changing situations easily
  • Ability to work well with all types of personalities and levels of responsibility
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and as part of a team

This position is for 3 days per week. The position will be located at DABC’s office in Vancouver. The successful candidate may be required to work at home one or two days per week.
