DABC Receives AccessAbility Week Proclamation Plaque

On May 27, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (MSDPR) Shane Simpson presented DABC’s Myung Lee with an AccessAbility Week proclamation plaque in recognition of DABC’s work in the disability community. He emphasized the work we have done through our Tax AID DABC program, which we operate thanks to funding from MSDPR, and in partnership with other organizations across BC. DABC Board member Elizabeth Lalonde was also in attendance.

DABC thanks the Province of BC for this honour.

Province announces more funding for accessibility and inclusion projects

Yesterday, to kick off AccessAbility Week, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson announced that the provincial government will once again provide funding to community projects that improve accessibility and inclusion. The grants will be disbursed by Disability Alliance BC. We were happy to be in attendance for the announcement.

“Disability Alliance BC is honoured to have the opportunity to once again support projects that promote greater accessibility and inclusivity for people with disabilities in B.C. communities,” said Justina Loh, executive director, Disability Alliance BC. “With funding from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, we will help enrich and improve the lives of all people with disabilities. We are grateful to government for providing the funds and the opportunity to see more amazing projects come to life.”

Research Study on Mothering and Disability

Are you a mother living with disabilities?

– Are you over 19?
– Are your children living with you (full time or part time), and under 19?
– Do you live in BC or Ontario?

Are you interested in talking about your experiences as a disabled mother?

If you are, Jewelles Smith, PHD (c) would like to hear from you, for a PHD research study titled: Understanding Systemic Barriers Experienced by Disabled Mothers in Canada: A Human Rights Inquiry into how Policy, Legislation and Media Influence Discrimination and Stereotypes of Disability and Mothering.

You are invited to participate in a 2-4 hour interview where you will be asked questions about your reproductive and mothering experiences.
